Modelling of Flow and Transport in a Porous Medium

Course presentation

The problem of underground water  pollution and management has become an essential preoccupation  in the evolution  of human activities impact. These problems are closely related to the question of water spaces protection  and of underground water quality. So, when pollutants  escape, for example, from defective installations infiltrate through  the soil, it’s necessary to preview their migration. These pollutants can be various chemical constituents (elements)  and can interact. The infiltration of pollutants can be consequence of some fluid flow. The porous medium that favors this migration can be unsaturated in relation to a determined  phase of the fluid .These processes can be simulated by means of complex models and their study has today an important development as well of  mathematical aspect as of  numerical simulation aspect.

Objectives

The purpose of this course is to give a series of conferences about the comprehension and the command of these phenomena with the assistance of a global approach including the physical modeling, theoretical studies and numerical simulation to the university research workers, the engineers and the economic operators interested in the phenomenon of flow and transport in porous medium.
