Physical modelling of flow and transport in a porous medium.

This theme concerns the setting into equations of different laws that rule the processes of multiphase flow and of transport of reactive pollutants in an unsaturated porous medium. Studies concerning the behavior of hydrodynamic and hydrogeologic parameters of the medium in connection with these processes are considered.

Mathematical study of the flow and transport  problem in a porous medium.

This theme includes theoretical  studies of the non linear system of partial differential equations modelling the process of flow and transport with the physical conditions which are treated in the first theme. In this  section, the problem of the existence, the unicity and the regularity of the solution of the mentioned system above in an adequate functional space is investigated.

Numerical resolution of the flow and transport problem in porous media.

 This theme treats the approximate solution of the system modelling the flow and transport in porous media, according to the theoretical studies presented in the second theme, by means of the known numerical methods as finite differences and finite elements (or finite volumes). Also, we proceed to the error estimation of the adopted approximation.

  Numerical simulation of the flow and transport in a porous medium 

This theme is directly related to the third one. It aims to show, in concrete and real situations, how to compute the numerical solution of the problem modelling the multiphase flow and the transport of reactive solute in unsaturated porous media, by means of numerical codes.
